FAQ

  • There are approximately 1,500 Jewish students at Northeastern!

  • Northeastern Hillel is a student-run community. Students create, plan, and promote programs that inspire and connect students across campus. Northeastern Hillel has over a dozen communities and committees for you to join! Our committees unite Jewish students who share the same interests or passions. Committees meet bi-weekly and host a few events every semester.

With the support of staff, these students plan social, cultural, educational and religious programs, events and holiday celebrations, as well as a range of special initiatives. Often students propose their own programs, with Hillel providing the structure through which to make them happen. If you have an idea for a program or would like to find out about leadership opportunities, please contact Jennifer Stone at jennifer@northeasternhillel.org

  • Northeastern Hillel is on the forefront of social justice programming within the Northeastern community. Northeastern Hillel, in partnership with many university and community organizations, is committed to programs that make social justice and the teaching of Jewish values a core component of Hillel's mission on campus. Our special initiatives such as our Community Fridge, Tikun Olam Core, Challah for Hunger and fundraisers for various community causes are rooted in Jewish tradition. Being engaged with making the world a better place is not only in line with Hillel’s mission of active citizenship, it also is informed by Judaism’s commitment to engage actively to repair the parts of the world that are broken.

  • Our most popular program is our own Birthright trip, a free 10 day trip to Israel twice a year. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity where you get to travel around the country with NU Hillel students and Israeli soldiers. You will visit the Western Wall in Jerusalem, float in the Dead Sea, have a night out in Tel Aviv and climb the ancient desert fortress of Masada. This is an immersive experience that you won’t want to miss out on during your time at Northeastern. You can sign up for our trip by going to our birthright page here.

Northeastern Hillel is a Zionist organization. We do not take a specific stance on exactly how the conflict should be solved, and welcome all students to Hillel regardless of their opinions about Judaism and/or Israel. Israel is home to half of the world’s Jews, is the historic homeland of the Jewish people, and where the holiest sites in Judaism are located. Sharing our passion for this oldest democracy in the Middle East is in line with our values. Throughout the year we offer Hebrew learning opportunities, Israel educational and cultural events, and celebrations around Israel’s Independence Day.

  • Northeastern Hillel relies on the generous support of alumni, parents and friends to make all our student programs and activities possible. To learn more about how you can help, please visit Support Hillel.
